Bike is increasingly seen by companies as a sustainable method of transport

Review of the current situation for mobility in Luxembourg

Vehicle traffic has increased considerably in Luxembourg, making a significant impact on the amount of time needed to complete a journey and park, which is a great source of annoyance for drivers. Meanwhile, the new generations joining the job market have other mobility needs. They are less concerned to own their own vehicles and attach greater importance to flexibility and usage.

The Luxembourg government has now sent out a strong signal with its new tax reform and the calculation of a benefit in kind for company vehicles. This new regime aims to encourage corporate bike use and create a positive context for the development of bike leasing.

At the same time, Luxembourg is making significant efforts to improve cycle lanes and other services for cyclists. Cycle traffic in urban and suburban areas has shown consistent growth since 2011. In 2015, Luxembourg went from 19th to 13th position on the European Cyclists’ Federation Cycling Barometer, mainly thanks to its stance on safety. The aim is for cycling to become an increasingly safe method of transport.

Cycling – an alternative, ecological way to get around

Thanks to this favourable environment, bikes are becoming a popular alternative for getting from A to B.

This is why bike leasing, folding bikes, electric bikes and folding electric bikes are a smart solution. Company bikes can be used by employees alongside a fleet vehicle or other method of transport (train, bus). Cycling reduces the environmental impact of short commutes and work trips, and is often faster than travelling by car for trips in the city shorter than 5 km. Also, most car parks are located at the edge of business parks, and having a folding bike in the boot is a simple and less stressful way of completing a journey.
